PROJECT OVERVIEW
The W. Broussard at Duhon Road Roundabout project involves the construction of a new concrete roundabout at the intersection of W. Broussard Road and Duhon Road. This proposed roundabout will further enhance traffic flow and safety of the intersection. By replacing the existing stop-controlled intersection with a roundabout, the following benefits can be felt: a reduction in serious crashes due to a reduction of conflict points, an increase in traffic capacity, improved operational performance, promotion of lower speeds, traffic calming, and a decrease in wait times.
DRAINAGE AND GREEN INFRASTRUCTURE CONSIDERATIONS
Existing drainage for the project area utilizes an open (ditch) system. The new system will still utilize the ditches but will collect roadway runoff using curb and gutter and paved gutter drains which will outfall into the existing system. The new curb and gutter will collect and transport water runoff quickly to a stormwater system which will aid in the prevention of flooding. Throughout the project, the construction team will carefully monitor the drainage system to ensure that it is functioning correctly. They will also make any necessary adjustments to the system to ensure that it is optimized for the area's drainage needs.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONSIDERATIONS
Minimal environmental considerations have been identified and must be reviewed and potentially addressed.
*Note that this is not exhaustive of possible future environmental considerations
UTILITY CONSIDERATIONS
A preliminary assessment of the project area is provided for the utilities listed below. Potential utility relocation costs will be included in the project budget if the infrastructure is located within the utility’s own servitude.
RIGHT OF WAY CONSIDERATIONS
The project at hand involves significant right-of-way acquisition, utility easements, and construction servitudes, which are necessary for the construction of a new roundabout.
